You can always go directly to the ESF Libraries website and access what you are looking for but you can also can create a bookmark that will re-direct any page you are looking at through the remote access login. If ESF subscribes to that resource, the vendor will recognize you as ESF and you'll have access to the full text.

Essentially, the bookmark option involves creating a bookmark to any page and then changing the settings of that bookmark so that the url is actually a javascript code. Let's say you are on the page for the Journal of the American Chemical Society off campus. To access this resource that ESF subscribes to, click the bookmark. You will be redirected to the remote access login in page. You login and then the Journal of the American Chemical Society website should load and recognize you as a member of the SUNY ESF community. You should then be able to view any article as if you were on campus.

To set up this feature that should work on most browsers and devices as long as you have not disabled javascript, check out the steps below.

Creating and editing the Bookmark

  1. Open an internet browser (ex: Firefox, Chrome, etc.) and view any page (this one is good!)
  2. Create a bookmark and name it something meaningful to you.
  3. Select and copy the bookmarklet code below.
    javascript:void((function(){location.href='https://esf.idm.oclc.org/login?qurl='+encodeURIComponent(location.href);})());
  4. Edit the bookmark you just created by pasting the code you copied into the url location.
  5. Put the bookmark in an easily accessible location like the favorites bar.

Using the Bookmark

  1. NOTE: Bookmarklet is only needed if you go directly to a journal – not starting from a link on the ESF Libraries website.
  2. When on a page (like a journal article) that you want to view as if you were on campus, click the bookmark you created.
  3. You will be prompted to log in with your credentials.
  4. Once authenticated as a SUNY ESF user, you should get the full text if ESF subscribes to the resource.
  5. You will remain authenticated as a SUNY ESF user until the session times out or you close the browser.
